Description

Osmanthus fragrans is a dense evergreen shrub grown for its foliage and fragrant flowers. An ideal species for a shrub border, the compact upright form is heavily covered with oval glossy green leaves to 5" long. Powerfully sweet, apricot-scented white flowers bloom sporadically throughout the year. This species can also be trained as an espalier, small tree, or grown in a container. Other common names include, Fragrant Osmanthus, Sweet Osmanthus, Tea Olive, and Fragrant Olive.

Plant Care

Prefers to be planted in loamy and moist soil with good drainage. Prefers to be in partial shade in most inland areas. Water regularly during the first year to aid the plant in establishing a strong root system, frequency can be cut back once established. Fertilize in early spring and prune to shape.
