Blueberries are handsome upright, dense shrubs with arching shoots and elliptical leaves that emerge bronze, mature to dark green, and change to yellow or red in autumn. Tiny, white, urn-shaped flowers are followed by edible, sweet blue-black berries in mid- to late-spring. Shrubs can be used for hedges or borders. 'Sunshine Blue' is a mid-season fruiting Southern highbush variety that requires 150 chill hours. This semi-dwarf, evergreen bush tolerates more soil alkalinity than most other blueberries.
