Description

Camellia japonica 'Silver Waves' is an upright plant with large white semi-double irregular flowers with wavy petals. Showy yellow stamens centered on the blooms enhance the beauty. A profuse bloomer from October through March for milder regions. Slowly reaches 8' tall and wide but can get larger with age. Prune to maintain desired size. Protect from strong hot sunlight and drying winds. Established older plants can grow well on reduced supplemental water. Use as specimen plantings, espalier, or privacy screens.

Plant Care

Thrives in average, lightly acidic, well-drained soil; avoid alkaline soils. Water deeply, regularly during first growing season to establish an extensive root system; reduce frequency once established. More drought tolerant in coastal areas; less tolerant in hot, arid regions. Apply fertilizer in early spring. Prune to shape after flowering.
