Blechnum gibbum 'Silver Lady' is an attractive dwarf tree fern that is sure to turn heads! This elegant fern is native to tropical and subtropical regions and is popular among gardeners for its symmetrical crown of glossy, bright green feather-like fronds.

Silver Lady Fern is an evergreen, semi-tender to tender dwarf tree fern with simplified leaflets (or pinnae) of lime-green with softly undulating margins. Blechnum gibbum 'Silver Lady' is dimorphic and has both sterile and fertile fronds on the same plant. The fertile frond leaflets are slightly more narrow than those on the sterile frond. The glossy bright green upright fronds grow in a rosette-like whorl atop a short trunk. The short central trunk is slow to develop. Considered a medium-sized fern, Silver Lady Fern will grow around 3-4 ft. tall when mature.

Blechnum gibbum 'Silver Lady' is a fantastic fern for shady areas with moist soils and looks great in tropical, meadow, or woodland gardens in mass plantings, as an accent fern, or in containers. It can also be grown indoors in bright, indirect light.

The fabulous feathery fronds of Silver Lady Fern are stunning and add visual interest and texture in a shady landscape. In the right conditions, Blechnum ‘Silver Lady’ is easy to grow and low maintenance in California’s mild climate gardens.

How large does the Silver Lady Fern grow?
It typically reaches about 2 to 4 feet tall and spreads around 2 to 3 feet wide when grown under favorable conditions.
What kind of light does it prefer?
It does best in bright, indirect light or partial shade. Direct sunlight can scorch its fronds, and deep shade can slow growth.
What type of soil and moisture does it need?
It prefers a well‐drained, rich organic soil that remains evenly moist but not waterlogged. The top portion of the soil should begin to dry before watering again.
Is Silver Lady Fern suitable for indoor or outdoor use?
Yes, it works well as a houseplant in bright indirect light or in outdoor gardens where its light, soil, and moisture needs are met. It is less tolerant of frost and cold than some hardy ferns.
