Sea Pink Thrift
Sea Pink Thrift
Armeria maritima (A. vulgaris)
Considered a California native, these sturdy, dependable, grass-like perennials are good for walkways, borders, and rock gardens. Armeria maritima produces clusters of lovely pink flowers that sit atop 6-10" stems above tufts of narrow, stiff, evergreen leaves. A pom-pom lover's delight!
A long-blooming perennial, the flowers appear in spring through early-summer, but removing faded flowers may prolong flowering. Easy to grow, Sea Pink Thrift is tolerant of coastal conditions, and adaptable to a variety of soil types. Bees and Butterflies love this plant.
Plant in well-draining soil in sheltered areas with only morning sun, preferably. Water regularly during the first year to aid the plant in establishing a strong root system, frequency can be cut back once established. Remove spent flowers by cutting at the base of the stem, and can be fertilized through the growing season.
