Passiflora edulis is a self-fruitful vigorous vine that climbs with tendrils, and is the source of passionfruit juice frequently used to flavor beverages. Commonly called purple passionfruit, the delicious purple fruit typically ripens in summer. Fragrant, white flowers with showy purple centers first appear in late spring. Individual flowers bloom for one day. The glossy green, three-lobed leaves with serrated margins provide a lush backdrop for the fancy flowers and flavorful fruits. Grow on a trellis or wires to enjoy the best fruit production.
