    Description

Morning Light Maiden Grass is a striking ornamental grass known for its beautiful variegated foliage that's sure to add texture, color, and movement to the landscape. This tall elegant grass is mesmerizing in the garden with its undulating leaves and tassel-like flowers that sway gracefully in the wind and are sure to turn heads. Also commonly known as variegated silver grass or variegated eulalia grass, Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light' is sure to capture your attention with its delicate appearance and hypnotizing movement.

This warm season grass is a variegated Maiden Grass that forms finely-textured dense clumps 4-5 ft. tall and 3-4 ft. wide with showy plumes that rise above the foliage up to 6 ft. tall. Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light’ has very narrow, arching leaves that are a soft green with a creamy white margin that gives them a unique, frosty, glimmering glow. In late fall, when the grass begins to go dormant, the variegated foliage fades to beige. Feathery, pink-hued plumes appear above the foliage at the end of summer and mature to silvery-white. Both the flowers and foliage last throughout the winter providing interest in the winter garden.

This visually striking grass looks stunning planted in masses or as an accent plant. Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light' can be used in a wide variety of garden styles. In modern gardens, mass plantings create a simple, minimalist look, while in cottage gardens, it can be mixed with other flowering plants for a more naturalistic feel. Use in containers to add height, texture, and movement to the courtyard, balcony, or patio. Additionally, Miscanthus 'Morning Light' can be used to create a natural privacy screen, as the dense foliage and height provide excellent coverage.

Low maintenance and some drought tolerance, Morning Light Maiden Grass is a great choice for busy gardeners who want a beautiful garden without a lot of work. Whether used as a focal point or as part of a mixed border, Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light' is sure to bring beauty and movement to your outdoor space.

    Plant care

Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light' is a low-maintenance, upright, rounded clumping grass that requires minimal care. It prefers moist, well-draining loam soil and full sun to part shade, and once established, it is drought-tolerant.

Water deeply and regularly the first few months after planting to allow the roots to grow and become established in the soil. Drought tolerant once established but looks best with supplemental water, especially during hot summers.

Prune in late winter or early spring to make way for new growth in spring. Cut foliage back to 3-5 inches above the ground. Fertilizer is not necessary but applying a balanced fertilizer like G&B Organics All Purpose Fertilizer (4-4-4) in spring will promote healthy growth.
