English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) has been used for centuries as the traditional source of the lavender fragrance which many people know. In addition to this, it is an easy to grow grey green mounding shrub of 2-3 feet tall with beautiful pale lavender-blue flowers rising to 1-2 feet above the foliage. The long thin leaves of this species distinguishes it from other lavenders.
Plant in lean, slightly-alkaline, well-draining soil. Water regularly during the first year to aid the plant in establishing a strong root system, frequency can be cut back once established. Shear plant about half-way down after flowering to promote reblooming and to keep it bushy.
