Native to South Africa, Leucadendrons are prized for their foliage and/or flowers. Colorful showy bracts surround the cone-like flower clusters which together look like a large daisy. Leucadendron 'Ebony' is a slow-growing, evergreen shrub with year-round, eye-catching, dramatic black foliage. Small cone-like yellow flowers surrounded by showy, deep-red bracts appear in winter through spring. Ebony Conebush is an easy-care and waterwise option. Loves hot sun and lean, well-drained soils, but is less demanding than most of its relatives, even tolerating some clay. Great in containers, in cut flower arrangements, or as a stunning specimen plant in the garden.
Prefers sandy to loamy soil with good drainage. Water regularly after planting until roots are established then reduce frequency and water as needed. Drought tolerant. Occasionally prune to keep bushy and avoid fertilizers containing phosphorus.
