Description

Dietes vegeta 'Variegata' is an evergreen perennial with clumps of long, upright, narrow, flat variegated leaves of green with creamy pale yellow stripes. Small, Iris-like white flowers with gold markings on the outer petals and three inner petals of violet appear spring through fall in flushes of nearly two-week intervals resulting in the common name of fortnight lily. Drought tolerant in shady gardens, and tolerates coastal conditions. Blooms best with regular watering. Attractive in mass plantings, in patio containers, or as a solitary accent plant.

Plant care

Prefers fertile soil with good drainage. Water regularly after planting until roots are established. Some drought tolerance, but looks better with occasional irrigation. Blooms best in full sun with regular water. Prune at the base to remove old flower stalks and foliage for a tidy appearance. Divide clumps in early spring every 2 to 3 years.
