Description

Aloe arborescens, also known as Torch Aloe, is a large succulent shrub with dense rosettes of grey-green or dark green leaves on erect branching stems. The leaf margins have upward curving teeth-like structures that are pliable. Orange-red flowers rise above foliage in winter and attract hummingbirds. Torch Aloe really shines in the winter when in bloom.

Plant care

Plant in well-draining soil. Can do well in full sun along the coast but further inland, planting in direct sun can cause the leaf tips to burn so provide protection from the afternoon sun or plant in light shade. Drought-tolerant once established.
