Spanish lavender has distinctive flower spikes crowned with larger, petal-like bracts that resemble rabbit ears or butterfly wings. Blooms spring through summer. Plant in full sun to light shade inland in well-drained soil. Drought tolerant and easy to maintain. Remove spent flowers frequently for continuous blooming. Flowers of L. stoechas types are not recommended for human consumption. ‘Otto Quast’ has deep lavender bracts that rise above aromatic short, grey-green leaves.
Plant in lean, slightly-alkaline, well-draining soil. Water regularly during the first year to aid the plant in establishing a strong root system, frequency can be cut back once established. Shear plant about half-way down after flowering to promote reblooming and to keep it bushy.
