Lantana 'Irene'
Irene Lantana is a beautiful, multi-colored flowering shrub with lightly fragrant blooms in shades of pink, magenta, and yellow that appear throughout the summer and fall. This compact, mounding bush Lantana camara hybrid grows up to 3 ft. tall and 5 ft. wide, making it perfect for borders, garden corners, or containers. Good in both coastal and inland climates, Lantana ‘Irene’ is evergreen in frost-free areas but can also be grown as an annual in colder climates.
Lantana is valued for its heat resilience and drought tolerance and is prized for its profuse blooms. Butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds are attracted to the flower’s nectar, while the black berries, though toxic to other animals, are a winter food source for birds.
Irene Bush Lantana thrives in soil with good drainage. Water regularly during the first few months to help develop a strong root system. Reduce frequency after the lantana has become established in the landscape. Lantanas grown in patio containers require a regular water schedule. Remove old spent flowers periodically. Prune annually to maintain desired shape.
Winter Hardiness - Hardy to 20-25°F, and grows best in USDA zones 9-11. Lantana 'Irene' can be grown as an annual in colder climates.
