Description

'Gala' is a wonderful dessert fruit from New Zealand. 'Gala's' fruit is medium size, conic to round shape: a beautiful red-on-yellow color. The yellow flesh is aromatic, firm, crisp, juicy and sweet. Fruit ripens Late August to Early September. This apple stores well. Will take summer heat. Chilling requirement is less than 500 hours. Self-fruitful and a good pollinator for other varieties.

Plant Care

Prefers loamy and moist soil with good drainage. Water regularly during the first year to aid the plant in establishing a strong root system, frequency should be cut back once established. Fertilize in the early spring before the flowers emerge and remove dead wood and prune to maintain the desired size. In late Spring, thin out the crop to prevent early fruit drop and overbearing.
