Plant care

Water deeply and regularly the first few months after planting to allow the roots to grow and become established in the soil. Drought tolerant once established but looks best with supplemental water, especially during hot summers. The overall height of ‘Fairy Tails’ is dependent on the amount of water it receives and the climate where it is grown. The height may be smaller under drier conditions.

Generally considered evergreen, Fairy Tails Fountain Grass is a warm-season ornamental grass that grows in USDA Zones 8-10. The plant may experience dormancy below 30℉.

Prune annually in late winter or early spring. Cut back foliage 3-5 inches above the ground to make way for new spring growth. In warmer climates where ‘Fairy Tails’ remains evergreen, it does not need to be cut back, but cutting back the old foliage may freshen up its appearance.

Fertilizer is not necessary but applying a balanced fertilizer like G&B Organics All Purpose Fertilizer (4-4-4) in spring will promote healthy growth.

Although ‘Fairy Tails’ was originally thought to be sterile, it will reseed, but not as aggressively as other Fountain Grasses.
