    Description

Breeze Dwarf Mat Rush is a tough, moderate growing, upright, clumping grass-like plant that is great in mass plantings, borders, containers, or as an accent plant. Lomandra longifolia 'Breeze' ('LM300') is drought tolerant once established but can also grow in wet soils. Tolerant of salt spray, this dwarf mat rush is also useful in coastal gardens.

    Plant Care

Here’s how to plant and care for Lomandra Breeze:

    Choosing the Right Location

    • Light: 'Breeze' Lomandra thrives in full sun to partial shade. It is quite adaptable and can tolerate a range of light conditions, from bright sunlight to light shade.
    • Climate: Suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 8-11. It can handle a variety of climates, including coastal areas and places with hot, dry conditions.
    • Wind and Salt Tolerance: It's resistant to wind and salt spray, making it ideal for coastal gardens.

    Soil Preparation

    • Soil Type: It prefers well-drained soil but is adaptable to a range of soil types, including sandy, loamy, or even clay soils. Avoid waterlogged areas.
    • Amendments: Add compost or organic matter to improve soil structure and drainage, especially if planting in heavier clay soils.
    • Planting Hole: Dig a hole that is twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball. This will give the roots space to spread out.

    Planting

    • Spacing: Plant 'Breeze' Lomandra about 2 to 3 feet apart, depending on how dense you want the foliage to be. This allows for natural spreading and air circulation.
    • Positioning: Place the plant so that the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Backfill the hole and gently press down to remove air pockets.

    Watering

    • Frequency: Once established, 'Breeze' is drought-tolerant and requires minimal watering. However, water regularly during the first few months to help the roots establish.
    • Overwatering: Be careful not to overwater, as this can lead to root rot. Let the soil dry out between watering.

    Fertilizing

    • Minimal Feeding: Lomandra 'Breeze' doesn’t need much fertilization. A light application of a slow-release, balanced fertilizer in spring can support healthy growth.
    • Avoid Over-Fertilizing: Excess nutrients can lead to excessive, weak growth, so less is more with this plant.

    Pruning

    • Minimal Pruning Needed: One of the appealing aspects of 'Breeze' Lomandra is that it requires little to no pruning. It maintains a tidy, compact shape naturally.
    • Tidy Up if Necessary: If the foliage becomes untidy or damaged, you can trim it back by about one-third in late winter to encourage fresh, new growth.

    Pest and Disease Control

    • Resistant to Most Problems: 'Breeze' Lomandra is quite resistant to pests and diseases, making it an easy-care choice. It rarely suffers from serious problems.
    • Inspect Occasionally: Regularly check for any signs of pest infestation, but issues are uncommon.
    Why Lomandra Breeze

People like planting Lomandra Breeze for several reasons:

    1. Low Maintenance

    • One of the biggest appeals of 'Breeze' is its low-maintenance nature. It requires minimal watering, little to no pruning, and can thrive without regular fertilization.
    • This makes it ideal for gardeners who want an attractive, fuss-free plant that doesn't demand a lot of attention.

    2. Drought Tolerance

    • 'Breeze' is highly drought-tolerant once established, which makes it a practical choice for areas that experience dry conditions or water restrictions.
    • It can survive with minimal water, which helps conserve resources and reduces the need for frequent irrigation.

    3. Versatility in Landscaping

    • This plant is extremely versatile and can be used in a variety of settings. It works well in borders, as a ground cover, in mass plantings, or even in containers.
    • Its ability to grow in full sun, partial shade, and coastal conditions makes it suitable for many different landscapes and garden styles.

    4. Attractive Appearance

    • 'Breeze' Lomandra has a graceful, fountain-like form with fine, arching green leaves that give a soft, textured look to gardens.
    • Its tidy, compact shape is aesthetically pleasing and makes it easy to incorporate into both formal and informal garden designs.

    5. Year-Round Interest

    • Unlike some ornamental grasses that die back in winter, 'Breeze' retains its lush green foliage throughout the year, providing continuous interest.
    • It can add greenery and texture to a garden even during the colder months, making it an excellent choice for evergreen landscapes.
