Description

Bartlett' is the #1 pear in the world. The fruit is large with a short but definite neck. The fruit has smooth, waxy, thin, yellow skin that may have a reddish blush. The flesh is white, sweet and tender. Ripens early to midseason. Tolerates hot summers. Requires 500-600 chill hours. Self-fruitful , but may need a pollinizer in cool California coastal areas and Northwest; use any variety but 'Seckel'

Plant care

Prefers to be planted in full sun in well-draining soil. Water regularly during the first year to aid the plant in establishing a strong root system, frequency should be cut back once established. Fertilize before the flowers emerge and remove dead wood and prune to maintain the desired size. In Spring, thin out the crop to prevent early fruit drop and overbearing.
