    Description

The Bartlett Pear Tree or Pyrus communis 'Barlett' is America's most popular variety, considered the sweetest, juiciest, and most flavorful pear. This fast-growing, deciduous fruit tree that bears large green skinned, fragrant pears which mature to beautiful golden yellow when ripened at room temperature. This is the classic 'pear-shape' pear is best for colder winter regions where it will receive 500-600 chill hours (USDA Zone 5-9). Self-fruitful in most western U.S. climates, but it may be better to plant at least two pear varieties for the best fruit set. Enjoy a profusion of beautiful white flowers in spring followed by large green pears in late summer.

The pears are typically harvested in August and can be held in cold storage for several months. Bartlett pears are a good all-around choice for fresh eating, salads, preserves, syrups, canning, and also dried. This pear tree is perfect for anyone looking to grow their own delicious and nutritious fruit, and it makes a beautiful and low-maintenance addition to any garden. Plant care

It is critical to choose a location with well-drained soil that receives 6 hours minimum of direct, full sun when planting your Barlett Pear tree. The tree should be planted at the same depth it was in the container, with at least 15-20 feet of space in circumference to grow.  Bartlett pear grows best in slightly acidic, deep, heavy, moist, and well-drained soil. It will tolerate other types of soil but fruit yield may be less.  Bartlett is especially sensitive to salt.

Regular watering and fertilization are essential for the care of your Barlett Pear tree. Water the tree on a regular basis, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil consistently moist. Fertilize with Gardner & Bloome 8-4-2 Organic Citrus & Fruit Tree and follow instructions on the package. Regularly prune the tree to remove dead or diseased wood and shape it as desired.

Bartlett pears do not fully ripen on the tree. Harvest mature pears in August while the skin is still green. Bartlett pears can be stored for 3-4 months in refrigeration.  Allow fruit to ripen at room temperature for a few days, until the skin starts becoming yellow.

Within 3-5 years of planting, your Barlett Pear tree should bear fruit. The pear tree bears large-sized green skinned fruit that is ready to pick in August. The fragrant fruit ripens to a golden yellow at room temperature and has a sweet, juicy flavor. This tree, in addition to producing delicious fruit, can also be used as an attractive landscape feature due to its glossy green leaves and delicate white flowers.
