Thymus serpyllum 'Elfin' is an evergreen, tight mat-forming miniature thyme with tiny oval aromatic leaves of grey-green. Seldom blooming, the small, pale pink flowers appear in summer. Use between stepping stones or in rock gardens.

How tall and wide does Elfin Thyme grow?
It grows only about 1 inch tall and spreads 12–18 inches wide, forming a dense, low mat that hugs the ground closely.
When does Elfin Thyme bloom?
It blooms in late spring to early summer, covering itself with tiny pink flowers that attract bees and butterflies.
What kind of sunlight and soil does it prefer?
Elfin Thyme thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It prefers dry, sunny conditions and does not like heavy, wet soil.
How much water does it need?
Water regularly during establishment, then sparingly. Once mature, it’s very drought-tolerant and ideal for waterwise gardens.

Plant Like a Pro: The Triangle Method

We recommend planting in a triangular (offset) pattern: each plant sits in the gap between the two plants in the row above. This covers more ground with fewer plants and fills in faster than a square grid.
