Description

Xylosma congestum 'Compacta' is an evergreen shrub with gracefully arching branches and shiny light green leaves and features bronzy-red new growth. Compact Shiny Xylosma grows slowly to half the size of the species and can be trained as a single or multi-trunked small tree, espaliered, or used as a formal or informal hedge. Looks best with occasional watering. Compact Xylosma is a versatile shrub that tolerates shearing well.

Plant care

Requires soil with good drainage. Water regularly after planting until roots are established then reduce frequency and water as needed. Some drought tolerance, but looks better with occasional irrigation. Use a general purpose fertilizer in spring before new growth begins. Prune to maintain desired shape.
