Camellia japonica 'Blood of China' is an vigorous rounded bushy shrub with fragrant, medium sized, semi-double to loose peony shaped, deep rich red flowers with short yellow stamens. Blooms winter through late spring. Slowly reaches 10 feet tall but can get larger with age. Prune to maintain desired size. Protect from strong hot sunlight and drying winds. Established older plants can grow well on low supplemental water. Great for accent plant, privacy screen, border, or planted in groups.
Plant in acidic, loamy, well-draining soil in sheltered areas. Water regularly during the first year to aid the plant in establishing a strong root system, frequency can be cut back once established. Mulch will help keep the roots cool. Feed with acid fertilizer when it is done flowering for the season.
