Description

This picturesque evergreen shrub, Echium fastuosum (also known as Echium candicans), is a great plant for mild coastal climates and seaside gardens on a slope or in an area with room to spread out. Great spiked clusters of bluish-purple flowers stand out dramatically above the long, narrow, hairy, grey-green foliage.

Native to the islands of Madeira, located between Portugal and Morocco, this fast-growing, evergreen plant naturally grows on rocky slopes in poor, dry soil and is perfect for the coastal gardens of California. Attracts butterflies, bees, and birds.

Plant care

Plant in well-draining soil. This plant easily reseeds. It is best to prune the spent blooms before they go to seed. A light prune may also help keep it bushy.
