Rhamnus californica 'Mound San Bruno' (Frangula c.) is a fast-growing evergreen California native shrub that is more garden tolerant than other native Coffeeberry varieties. Smaller than the ‘Eve Case’, this compact, mounding evergreen shrub has inconspicuous cream-colored flowers. Large, showy berries, resembling the fruit of the coffee plant, begin to develop in summer, maturing from green to red to black in color - a good food source for backyard birds. Not as hardy as ‘Eve Case’ but grows well in coastal gardens as a border or accent plant.
