Ceanothus 'Joyce Coulter' is a low-spreading shrub, mounding California Lilac hybrid with long, spike-like clusters of sky blue flowers. This fast-growing Ceanothus tolerates heavy pruning, regular irrigation, and heavy soils. Drought tolerant in coastal gardens but best to provide supplemental irrigation during summer in hot, interior gardens. Useful as a groundcover spreading 10-15 ft. wide.

How big does Joyce Coulter California Lilac grow?
It grows about 3 to 5 feet tall and can spread 8 to 12 feet wide, forming a dense, mounding shrub that looks great on slopes or as a groundcover.
What kind of light and soil does it prefer?
Full sun is ideal, and it needs well-drained soil. It will tolerate poor, rocky soil but will not survive heavy or wet clay.
When does it bloom and what do the flowers look like?
It blooms in spring with clusters of sky blue to lavender-blue flowers that cover the plant for several weeks. The blooms attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
How drought-tolerant is it?
Very. Once established, it rarely needs supplemental watering. Overwatering is one of the fastest ways to kill it.
