Santolina virens is an attractive evergreen compact Mediterranean shrub with aromatic deep green, finely divided narrow leaves that can be sheared for a formal look as a low border or planted in mass for an informal mounding border or edging. Small, creamy-yellow button-like flowers on wiry stems bloom in spring. Heat and drought tolerant. Green Santolina looks good in knot gardens, herb gardens, Mediterranean style gardens, or sheared and shaped in containers. Cutback after flowering to prevent woody buildup.
