    Description

Hemerocallis 'Cranberry Baby' is one of the smallest daylilies available. This resilient dwarf daylily has a compact habit and tidy foliage with sweet, pinkish-red mini blooms that will thrive in the California landscape and look beautiful in the garden for years.

There are so many daylily varieties to choose from but not all varieties are suited for the California climate. Some daylilies only have one bloom cycle or are susceptible to Daylily Rust, an unattractive fungus. Hemerocallis ‘Cranberry Baby’ is rust-resistant and a rebloomer with a long flowering period that extends from April through November and is an excellent choice for your California garden.

Popular for its long flowering period, disease-resistance, and low maintenance, Cranberry Baby Daylily features small, cranberry-red flowers on short, slender stalks. This daylily blooms early in spring and flowers profusely with multiple repeat bloom cycles through late fall. The 2 inch diameter flowers appear 4 inches above the slender green foliage that forms clumps 12 inches tall by 18 inches wide. Evergreen in temperatures above 25 ?, dormant in colder climates.

Daylilies are relatively low maintenance and easy to grow herbaceous perennials that can be used in a variety of garden styles and designs, including cottage gardens and rock gardens. Excellent in borders or as edging along walkways, Hemerocallis look best when planted in large groups of a single flower color for the best dramatic effect in a landscape.

Hemerocallis 'Cranberry Baby' tolerates dry heat, cold winters, and smog making it an excellent choice for hotter inland gardens. Alternatively, ‘Cranberry Baby’ is great in coastal gardens, tolerant of cool, damp nights, wind, sea spray, and salty soils. It is also a great choice near pools as it tolerates reflected heat from pavement, pool chlorine, and its soft slender leaves are family friendly. ‘Cranberry Baby’ can also withstand submersion for weeks in rain gardens, soggy soils, or bioswales. Cranberry Baby Daylily is resilient and beautiful.

Hemerocallis 'Cranberry Baby' is perfect for both novice and experienced gardeners alike. Waterwise, low maintenance, rust-resistant, and resilient with a long flowering period, 'Cranberry Baby' is miniature in size with high impact in the landscape. This popular and attractive daylily is sure to turn heads and add beauty to your garden.

    Plant Care

Plant your Hemerocallis 'Cranberry Baby' in well-drained soil in a sunny location that receives at least 6 hours of full sun. Grows best in organically rich loam but adapts to most soil types if they drain well.

After planting your daylily, water the soil regularly for a few weeks until the roots have become established, then reduce frequency. Drought tolerant, daylilies can survive for months on just the water stored in their fleshy roots, but they flower best with regular water.

'Cranberry Baby' tolerates coastal conditions, soggy soils, and bioswales

Prune spent blooms to encourage more blooms. Remove old or damaged foliage for tidier appearance.

Plant daylilies in mass with one flower color for best natural effect.  Or mass plant a low type in front of a taller daylily for visual impact. Daylilies vary in flower height, flower size, and foliage and should not be randomly mixed like one might do with pansies.

    FAQ's

Q: Why are Hemerocallis called daylilies?
A: The flower of a daylily only lasts one day.

    Q: What is daylily rust?
A: Daylily rust is a fungal pathogen that affects the leaves and flower stems (scapes) of Hemerocallis and is typically spread by wind or overhead irrigation. Rust does not kill the daylily, but it is unattractive. We only offer rust-resistant cultivars suited to California gardens.

Q: What is a reblooming daylily?
A: A reblooming daylily has more than one bloom cycle within the year. After the first flush of flowers, the plant rests then flushes out another set of blooms. The number of bloom cycles depends on the cultivar.
