Hemerocallis 'Blushing Summer Valentine' is a medium-tall daylily with an exotic flair that will look beautiful in your garden. Stunning large buff-pink flowers with an eyezone and petal edges of burgundy-red bloom profusely and thrive in the California landscape.
There are so many daylily varieties to choose from but not all varieties are suited for the California climate. Some daylilies only have one bloom cycle or are susceptible to Daylily Rust, an unattractive fungus. Hemerocallis ‘Blushing Summer Valentine’ is rust-resistant and a rebloomer and is an excellent choice for your California garden. Blushing Summer Valentine is an award-winning daylily that is popular for its long flowering period, disease-resistance, and low maintenance.
Blushing Summer Valentine daylily features warm pink flowers with bold, raspberry-red markings on the petal’s edges and eyezone for a bold statement. This daylily blooms early in the season, in March or April in mild climates, and flowers profusely with multiple repeat bloom cycles through fall. The 5-6 inch diameter flowers appear 9-12 inches above the dark green foliage that forms evergreen clumps 22 inches tall.
Daylilies are relatively low maintenance and easy to grow herbaceous perennials that can be used in a variety of garden styles and designs, including cottage gardens and rock gardens. Excellent in borders or as edging along walkways, Hemerocallis look best when planted in large groups of a single flower color for the best dramatic effect in a landscape. Daylily ‘Blushing Summer Valentine’ is rust-resistant and tolerates dry heat, cold winters, and smog making it an excellent choice for hotter inland gardens.
Hemerocallis 'Blushing Summer Valentine' is perfect for both novice and experienced gardeners alike. Waterwise, low maintenance, and resilient with a long flowering period, ‘Blushing Summer Valentine’ is a great investment with high impact. This popular and attractive daylily is sure to turn heads and add beauty to your garden.
Plant your Hemerocallis 'Blushing Summer Valentine' in well-drained soil in a sunny location that receives at least 6 hours of full sun. Grows best in organically rich loam but adapts to most soil types if they drain well.
After planting your daylily, water the soil regularly for a few weeks until the roots have become established, then reduce frequency. Drought tolerant, but flowers best with regular water.
'Blushing Summer Valentine' tolerates extreme heat and cold and has good rust resistance. A tetraploid daylily like Blushing Summer Valentine has four sets of chromosomes that result in larger flowers with intense colors. The scapes, or flower stems, tend to be sturdier and stronger, and the whole plant generally is more vigorous than a standard diploid cultivar.
Prune spent blooms to encourage more blooms. Remove old or damaged foliage for tidier appearance.
Plant daylilies in mass with one color for best natural effect. Or mass plant a low type in front of a taller daylily for visual impact. Daylilies vary in flower height, flower size, and foliage and should not be mixed like one might do with pansies.
